I want to bring in my bank accounts

Import a bank statement as a file, or connect your bank read-only through finAPI.

9 articles

  1. Import a file or connect my bank: which suits me? Both work well: file import works on every plan and goes back as far as your export, while the bank connection through finAPI (Solo and Family) conveniently fetches new days.
  2. How do I import a bank statement as a CSV or CAMT file? Download the statement from your online banking as a CSV or CAMT file and drop it under Import → Bank statements, or under Actuals → Import bank statement. This works on every plan.
  3. How do I connect my bank through finAPI? On Solo and Family, you connect your bank under Accounts → Connect bank. Through finAPI you grant read-only access at your bank, then you match the accounts and fetch the bookings.
  4. Is the bank connection safe? Yes. The bank connection is a licensed account information service (AIS): it reads balances and transactions and can't move money.
  5. How do I match bank accounts, including joint or skipped ones? After you grant access, you use Match bank accounts to match each bank product to a Westara account: Link to, Create new or Skip.
  6. How do I fetch bank transactions, and where do they go? After matching, tap Fetch bookings. Cash transactions land in Actuals, broker transactions in Activity. This depends on the bank product, not on the Westara row.
  7. How do bank transactions get a category? New bookings get their category first from local rules, then on Solo and Family from AI, and finally from your payee rules.
  8. How do I renew or end bank access? Your bank's consent typically lasts about 90 days. After that, tap Renew access. If you don't want any more fetches, choose one of the actions below depending on what you want.
  9. The bank connection didn't finish. What now? The status line under Accounts shows which step is stuck. Here's what you can do in each case.
