How do I import broker transactions from a file?

In short

Through Import → Broker activity: choose your broker or use auto-detect, drop the file, match the depots to your accounts and import. Westara turns the broker rows into entries in Activity.

Steps

  1. At your bank or broker, export the depot's transactions as a CSV, not the holdings. Westara needs the individual buys and sells, not a list of positions.

  2. Choose the period from your first purchase until today if you want open quantity and cost basis to be right. A short window only adds recent rows.

  3. In Westara, open Import → Broker activity and pick a preset or auto-detect.

  4. Bring the file in, in one of three ways with the same preview:
    drop the file
choose the file from your device
Paste from clipboard: select a table in a spreadsheet or at your broker, copy it and paste. Your browser may ask for permission.

  5. On the confirm step, match the depot names to your Westara accounts and import.

Drop Account Activity or Closed Positions as a CSV. Stocks and ETFs, as well as deposits, withdrawals and dividends, land in Activity. CopyTrader, leverage above 1 and shorts are skipped. You can also connect eToro directly.

After the import

Activity is the basis. Holdings build from it automatically. You'll find sample templates for each broker under the options. Quick import (⌘⇧I) on Holdings or Activity opens the same flow.

You import bank statements for your spending and income through Import → Bank statements.

In the app

  • Import

You’ll find these areas in Westara after signing in.
