Westara

How do base, account and instrument currency work?

Advanced
In short

Westara shows your totals in your base currency, which you set under Profile (EUR by default). Accounts and securities keep their own currency.

Three levels

  1. Base currency: your reporting currency for the Overview, holdings totals and unrealised results. Set it under Profile → Base currency.

  2. Account currency: the currency your bank or broker uses on statements (under Accounts → Edit account). New cash rows in Activity use it by default.

  3. Instrument currency: the currency a security trades in (for example USD for US securities).

Exchange rates

The Overview converts all amounts into one total using current exchange rates. For cost basis, Westara stores the rate from the booking date. Current exchange rates only affect market value and unrealised results.
