In short
Ready to assign is the cash you can still put into the plan this month: linked cash under Holdings → Cash, minus the amounts already assigned to categories this month.
The figure appears on Budget, Actuals and the Overview once cash accounts are linked. If none is linked yet, the strip takes you to Holdings → Cash. The small i next to it explains the figure in place.
A negative figure means the categories have spent more than there is linked cash. The strip highlights the biggest overspend.
This is not a full envelope system in which every euro has to be planned in advance. The year plan can have empty months.
