In short
With rules: a rule remembers something like "this shop is groceries", so you don't have to categorise the same payee every month.
Creating and managing rules
- When importing or in a booking, tap Remember after choosing the category.
- Under Household → Rules, edit, reorder or turn off rules.
- Preview matches: current rows that would match, newest first.
- Apply to history: re-categorise older matches if you want, and update totals.
Matching uses the counterparty and the booking text.
What rules don't do
Rules only set a category. They don't hide rows from other household members, split a booking, move ownership or invent amounts. They never overwrite a split booking.
